Okay. So, I was hoping for some more, you know, MAGIC.
There was none to be found in this book. (Well, Ishraq MAY have magic. It’s still unconfirmed, though.)
I was hoping for Witches and Curses and stuff. I mean, gosh, even if the werewolf had been a real werewolf. 
The thing with the abbey and the lady almoner and all that stuff being non-magical was cool. But after that, I really wanted some magic.
Since this book is pretty much totally absent of magic, I have to say, I prefer the Other Boleyn Girl by Philippa Gregory. 
This book was just a little unfocused, if you ask me. I mean, it seems like Luca is the main character, but then there are these other three characters, and it seems like they’re all trying to be the main character at the same time, and it’s just a tad confusing.
Now, I will be reading the next book (there’s still a possibility that IShraq has magic; and I have to know) also, there’s the whole Luca-and-Isolde drama going on. Plus, as an added bonus, there is some Ishraq-and-Freize drama going on to.
Plus, I just want to know what happens.
I think this book could’ve been better, definitely. 
But it was still good.

Meine Meinung: Ich war eigentlich nie Fan von historischen Romanen. Würde man mich nach Buchgenres fragen, die ich nicht lese, wäre dieses wahrscheinlich dabei gewesen. In letzter Zeit habe ich jedoch immer wieder mit dem Gedanken gespielt, mal einen Schritt in diese Richtung zu wagen. Als ich dann eine Mail von Fischer bekam, in der mir Order of Darkness angeboten wurden konnte ich nicht nein sagen. Denn das ist der Auftakt einer Jugendreihe im Genre historische Romane aus der Feder von Philippa Gregory, die schon einige Erfahrungen auf diesem Gebiet sammeln konnte.
Es ist sehr schwer dieses Buch zu bewerten, denn meine Meinung dazu schwank zwischen den beiden Extremen fand ich gut und fand ich gar nicht gut. Erst einmal konnte mich die Autorin mit diesem Roman eindeutig von dem Genre überzeugen. Mission erfüllt also und ich bin gespannt, weitere historische Romane zu lesen. Ich hatte immer meine Probleme damit, die ganzen Bräuche und Denkweisen des Mittelalters in einem Buch zu finden. Besonders, was den Aberglauben und die Religion angeht. Aber genau um diese Dinge geht es hauptsächlich in Order of Darkness und glücklicherweise haben mich diese Dinge beim Lesen nicht gestört.
Obwohl es im Klappentext den Anschein hat, als seien auch Fantasy Elemente im Buch enthalten, ist dem nicht so. Die mysteriösen Erscheinungen im Buch fundieren auf dem Aberglauben und werden von den Protagonisten auf eine tolle und überraschende Weise gelöst und diese Auflösung war nie vorhersehbar und konnte mich immer überraschen. Ich habe das Buch eigentlich sehr gerne gelesen und zusammen mit Philippa Gregorys Schreibstil hat das Lesen wirklich Spaß gemacht und war kurzweilig. 
Soviel zu den positiven Punkten. Ich habe allerdings auch einige kleine Kritikpunkte. Im Klappentext bekommt man den Eindruck als würde das Buch aus Isobels Sicht erzählt und als spiele Luca nur eine nebensächliche Rolle. Ich komme sehr gut mit Frauen als Erzählerinnen klar und war sehr erleichtert, dass dies in meinem ersten historischen Roman auch der Fall sein würde. Besonders, da die Frau im Mittelalter ja auch eine ganz andere Rolle inne hatte, als heute. Das Buch wird allerdings zu 95% aus Lucas Sicht erzählt, was mich erst einmal überrascht hat und dann auch ein wenig gestört hat. Der Schreibstil und wahrscheinlich auch die ziemlich männliche Sichtweise Lucas haben dann dazu geführt, dass ich zwar mit den Personen mitfühlen konnte, mich aber leider nicht in sie hineinversetzen konnte. Dazu kommt noch, dass ich Isobel und auch ihre Freundin Ishraq um einiges interessanter fand. 
Ein weiterer Kritikpunkt ist, dass ich angenommen habe, dass sich das ganze Buch um den Konflikt dreht, der im Klappentext erwähnt wird. Allerdings nimmt dieses Thema nur die erste Hälfte des Buches ein, während Luca in der zweiten Hälfte zu einem neuen Fall geschickt wird. So erinnert das Buch eher an zwei Kurzgeschichten in einem Buch und hat den Lesefluss zwischendrin auch ein wenig gestört.
Bewertung: Philippa Gregory konnte mich trotz einiger Kritikpunkte mit Schicksalstochter fesseln und hat mir das Genre historische Romane erfolgreich näher gebracht. Das Buch war spannend und nicht immer vorhersehbar und man bekommt Lust auf die beiden Fortsetzungen der Reihe. Wegen meinen beiden kleinen Kritikpunkten gebe ich Order of Darkness: Schicksalstochter nur 4 von 5 Füchschen.

I really enjoyed this book and was very intrested by it. I did have some problems with it though. I felt like at some points it was slow and a bit boring. I also really liked how this was pretty feminist while still being acurate to the time.

Changeling started out pretty good; I loved all the characters, the setting was great, the language and writing style were phenomenal. I had really high expectations for it. I'm highly disappointed. I still love all the characters and everything I just mentioned, but the plot was.. Boring. I think it could have been really good, but the way it was written it sounded really slow paced and dull.

I really do love the characters though <3 Freize is just fabulous and hilarious; I love him to death! Ishraq is a strong, independent woman who don't need no man! Isolde is a great friend. Brother Peter is definitely interesting XD And Luca... Dead God, bless his soul. Why can't he be real? XC

All in all, it wasn't a bad book, but I wouldn't read it again.
