Out of all the works of history that I have read in my life, this book ranks near the bottom. The narrative reeks of bias and superiority. His opinion guides the narrative both in terms of pacing and subject matter choice. Several times throughout the narrative, Harman almost gleefully dismisses the assertions of other historians when those assertions contradict his own. That sort of narrative has no place in a work of history. It barely has a place in an opinion column in a newspaper. Ultimately, Harman fails to present a comprehensive history of the world as he promises in the introduction. That alone disqualifies the book as a work of history aside from the egregious superiority complex.
I do not recommend this book at all.
