The Ghost Woods is a brilliantly atmospheric gothic novel following two expectant mothers as they are sent to Lichen Hall, a place for u married women to have their babies and find new parents to adopt them.

CJ Cooke has the wonderful ability to fully immerse you into the characters' lives and journeys. The imagery she creates through her writing style is incredible, making visualising everything easy. She uses this to tell a thought-provoking and engaging story of motherhood, nature, memory, and trauma.

While I found the opening part of The Ghost Woods slower paced as the scene and characters are set, the story unravels at just the right pace to keep you asking questions and guessing where it is all leading too. It's so cleverly concealed within the writing that it's not until the very end that I realised I knew where it was heading all along and everything clicked into place perfectly.

After reading both this and The Lighthouse Witches last October, I feel I have found an author to keep coming back to for an interesting gothic read that is bursting with intrigue for spooky season.
