Adorable as ever, the Cardcaptor books are always sweet and yet have that dark note lurking behind. This volume is mostly plot line and not a lot of card capturing, though there is a bit of summoning toward the end of the volume.

While the book is adorable, there are some logistical things I see now as I reread this series as an adult. Sakura’s mom was 16 when she married a 25 year old? I mean maybe the age of consent is a little different in Japan, but that seems a little sketchy to me. It all appears to be consensual, of course, but it threw me off a bit anyway. That’s a nine year age gap right after she reaches the age of consent. Talk about cradle robbing.

Otherwise, aside from a couple more things that gave me pause (Sakura drowns and they take her to Yukito’s house and not a hospital???) I think the characters are great and that the art is beautiful. This is one of CLAMP’s crowing jewels and you can see why. The plot could do with more, but this is only the first volume. They want to let you get comfortable with how things should be going ideally before they throw you a bunch of curveballs.

Definitely recommended reading from me, at least for the art if nothing else.

Cardcaptor Sakura was part of my childhood, with Sailor Moon were my favorite anime (and still are) 
The manga didn't live to my expectations, usually, there's more information and different scenarios/plots in mangas; nothing important changed in these volumes, but I did find them boring in contrast to their anime. Also, Meilin doesn't exist in the manga universe, and I freaking love Meilin.
The relationship between her and Syaoran it's kind of the same, yet Syaoran falls faster than in the anime, and for some reason that bothered me. 
Still loved it, but the anime, in my opinion, it's 5 times better.
