This is the last major work, written between 1946 and 1948. It is half journal, half reminiscence, and describes the narrowing of the author's world to those objects which are illuminated by a light in one's room. Colette talks about her age (75), her varied fan mail, fortitude in suffering the pain of arthritis, and reminiscences of journeys made.
