I felt like this one dragged so much in the beginning. It tended to focus a lot on the world-building and not so much on the characters, at least that's what I thought. It was a solid start for the beginning of a series, though, and did eventually get my attention. I liked the storyline and some of the characters were a hoot to watch their interactions. There were a lot of twists and turns, which only made Alex's story more interesting. I do enjoy a good detective story, and this one turned out to be a good fit, since it has magical elements in it, too. I might continue the series later on, if only to see what's in store for Alex next.
