This book definitely took me a lot longer to read than usual, but overall I did still enjoy it. (Struggled to rate this)

I think my favourite thing about this book was the concept. I really loved the idea and concept of the world we are seeing unfold in this story. I think the magic system and the shades are so incredibly interesting! I found it really difficult to get into this story but the thing that kept me reading was the intrigue of finding out how the world was going to unfold.

I think the writing in this was very very basic and at times there was a lot of unnecessary wordiness that made it difficult to stay interested. I also found that the way the chapters were divided were a little disjointed at times which made some scenes of the book that were meant to be intensive very underwhelming.

As far as the characters go, I do really like these characters and I’m intrigued to see where the relationships between the two main characters we followed in the book go. I am also very interested to see the story of the main heroine unfold and become clear.

I cannot believe these books are not more popular. They're short, yes, but packed with adventure, humor, and world-building. I find the magic system fascinating. Ayleth is an interesting and relatable character and I love that she is intelligent enough to question orders, but determined to do the best she can. I'd read anything about her or this world that Sylvia Mercedes has created.

It took me a while to come up with right words for this review. The book was completely different from what I thought, in a better way. 

I loved the main character Ayleth, I really felt like reading about an ordinary girl with flaws. I didn’t particularly liked Terryn, which was actually a disappointment, nor Hollis, in which I only saw a bitter woman with a lot of regrets. I didn’t read the prequel, so maybe I’m going to understand her better in her book. 

I loved the world building, even if it was a bit hard to dive into. It took me around 100 pages to really enter in the book, but I am happy I kept reading. 

I do suggest everyone reading it because it’s a lot different from other books we are used to read.
