wowwww, this was my first ever Backman book and they weren’t lying when they said this man knows how to write characters! 

it’s a beautiful story that makes u feel so connected to the characters in just 100 pages. any longer and i would’ve started sobbing. gonna go check out his other works now brb

This is a very short book, however it manages to reach profound levels of connection in just a few words. It’s about family, about forgetting, about death, about new life. A very good read.

Perhaps I was expecting too much after reading stellar reviews, but this poignant novella about the journey through Alzheimer's, while it had breathtaking moments, was overall rather disappointing for me. The main problem for me was the jumping from one dialogue to another. There were some lines that were lovely, and I liked this story way more than I did Beartown, but I think I have to conclude that Backman just isn't for me.

I can’t explain what it is about Fredrik Backman’s writing that never fails to make me feel something.

This was heartbreaking and so real. It covered grief and loss in a way that I haven’t read in a long time. I wasn’t expecting something so profound from a story so short.

This will be a story that I will think about for a very long time.

A favourite. 

I love Backman's writing and his characters, but this one.. it's just personal.

This was so much closer to a poem than it is to a book. It is one of the most gorgeously written pieces of literature I’ve ever read and I was tearing up basically the entire time I read it. In an odd way, I’m glad it’s so short because it would be almost too much if this was longer. This is a beautiful novella that blurs the lines between metaphor, fantasy, reality, past, present and future, and tells a moving story about life, death, love, loss, aging, family, and memory. I cannot recommend this enough, just be sure to grab some tissues just in case.
