Rereading these books is always a delight.

The last time I read this was sometime in the years when I was in middle school. I remember loving it, but past that I really had no recollection of the world or the characters aside from the basic concept of a girl WANTING to be captured by a dragon and that they became good friends. It's always a little nerve-wracking going back to a book series where you were not as refined a reader on the first go round. I mean, we're talking a probably 20 year age difference for me.

I am delighted to say that this was still just as delightful as the first time I read it.

Cimorene and Kazul remained delightful. While I was able to pick out how things would be important later before the characters did, as a result of me being a more experienced reader, it didn't diminish me enjoying the story at all and just bled into a form of gentle suspense. The plot was solid and the fun of turning the genre on it's heel was wonderful. I'm very glad I picked this one back up after so many years and I desperately want to get my hands on a set of hardcovers now instead of the paperback I read. (Keep your fingers crossed for me! These are 30 year old books now.)

This book is very appropriate for children, though there is one extremely veiled reference to what a princess might do with a prince after she's saved, if you catch my drift, but nothing a kid would pick up on. It's like a Pixar joke: the parents will get it, the kids will just read past it.

A Forever Favorite, I've been draggin' this delight from the Book Fair to the beach and everywhere in between since I was knee high to a porch gnome. And, I mean, mini Mikey MIGHT have had a major crush on Cimorene.

I haven't read children's fantasy in a long time and it certainly felt good to be back. It was a short, but fun ride! All those references to other fairy tales and stories were so obvious, but that's what made them so much fun. 

I loved our main character, I loved that she was different from other princesses and interesting, and so smart and hard working. I really enjoyed reading about Cimerone. All the other characters were great as well, for some reason I specifically liked the stone prince.

Even though the story was obvious, I still am pleased that I've read it. Books like this make you wanna read and will drag you out of any reading slump you're in. Not only because they're entertaining, but they're also... nostalgic in a way.
