I'm not sure I can write a coherent review for the book, since my thoughts on it are still hovering about my head, and I've yet to wrangle them together. 

But therein lies the beauty of the book. Samantha Harvey creates an impenetrable atmosphere, an ambiance that's warm and cozy, but that shatters itself when it needs to, then wraps you back up again. 

The prose is beautiful. It's pure. It's concise and elegant, but it cuts. The story itself, written in the form of a letter, unfolds slowly, and it should. It unfolds as the narrator works through it, so the pace mirrors what it's like to sift through so many years of cruft to try to make sense of a life. It's equal parts hope and senselessness. 

I'll leave it at that, but if you want a better idea, James Woods said it well.
