This book doesn't make sense, which makes sense, since it is about deceiving yourself. Seriously, it's a really strange read and it contains some twisted humour and rather f*cked up characters. I would have loved to analyse the short stories in it in english class...

Some stories - like the one about the imaginary friend - weren't as interesting as I hoped but others really spoke to me, even though I asked myself at first, why someone would write about kidnapping a turtle for example.

Really 3.5 stars but you know, goodreads. 8 Short stories by J. Appel in 179 pages. Off-kilter, comedic and a dash of dark anecdotal happenings in daily life that include a depressed hedgehog, tortoise with kidney problems and an imaginary parrot are just a taste test in this quirky amalgamation of thought provoking collection of stories. This is a good book and definitely encourages thinking outside the so called "norm" that real life actually entails vs. what everyone portrays. It didn't "Wow!" me, but I absolutely recommend for those swimming to the side of mainstream. Not all the stories willbe liked but I firmly believe there's a little somethin' for anyone with even an idea of not reading their "usual". 


Note: Thank you to the author for gifting me a copy. I thoroughly enjoyed most of the stories and hope that means more than how many stars I give. Can't wait to read more!
