Oh, I wish I loved this more... Padmé is one of my favourite characters and I am sad we didn't see more of her in the prequel trilogy, so this book sounded like the perfect solution for me. Unfortunately, it way too focused on the political side of the Star Wars universe than anything else. Which I probably should have known because Padmé is of course mostly known for being the Senator of Naboo (view spoiler)[aside from being the mother of Luke and Leia (hide spoiler)]. But yeah, I had kind of hoped for a lot more action. I will definitely be reading the sequel (or prequel actually) of this book, Queen's Peril, hoping there'll be some more action.

SO GOOD! More interesting than it was exciting, but it added so much depth to Padme's character and story. The audio book was a fantastic experience, I highly recommend!

Nice prose... but not very exciting. I admit I didn't make it past the three or four chapters before looking at the reviews and seeing my fears confirmed. A big part of this book is political drama and character work without *much* depth (there is some). Only leaving this review as I'm sure there are others that are looking for a more exciting read and would be better gratified in reading another SW tale

I really wanted to love this book. When I read it back in 2019 Padmé was my whole world, I was so desperate for any kind of new content and so grateful we were getting this book. After finishing it I remember thinking "that's it?" Maybe it's because my expectations were too high, but I can't say that I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I found it to be dry and lacking plot at many points, Rush Clovis made me want to throw the book out the window (but that's not the author's fault, he also made me want to throw my TV out the window when I watched Clone Wars), and at times Padmé felt like a non-character in her own book. I did however love the role Bail Organa played and all of the information we got about the lovely Handmaidens!  Maybe it's time I gave this book a second read and see if 2019 me was just expecting too much from one book.

I thought this book did wonders for padme's character. I was not a huge fan of her in the movies because she seemed very lackluster, but this book added a lot to her for me. This book does not have a ton of action until the middle/end and mainly focuses on the politics of the Star Wars galaxy as Padme transitions from queen to senator. I'm not hugely into the politics of Star Wars so I found some spots to be rather boring, but that is not unexpected from me. Overall, I liked seeing more background on Padme and her inner circle, I thought it added so much to a character that was skimmed over and oversimplified in the movies.
