I hate when expectations let you down. This was supposed to tickle all my boxes sigh

** spoiler alert **
           My thoughts are that compared to the first two books, this is definitely better, both regarding the plot and the main couple's relationship...... it was fun to follow them, they had chemistry in their hatred and then in their not so hateful scenes and Ruvan was just!!!!! Ugh too lovely at times* but as all good things ruin themselves, this did too w it's monstrous length :( the constant push and pull bw them and the plot moving at a snail pace bc the author needed to reach a quota were rly letdowns and ended up ruining the entire book experience for me. The ending felt rushed and I wanted to see more of Riane and Ruvan's rule as, you know, it and their people was something they had been working towards the entire book so it felt even more like I was being granted meager payoff after those tedious 500+ pages. Cool concept w the forging for Riane and her dilemmas but still an  almost  good book

Onto the next book we go!

* I think I need to speak a bit more on how much I liked Ruvan. The first and foremost feature I liked the most about him was how utterly tortured and in pain he was... compared to the first two dudes, he's in a league of his own, in every way from his backstory to his respect for Riane to his mouth, oh his mouth!!!!!!!! He was so utterly protective, kind and loyal to Floriane from the very start, I just :( some of the stuff he said/did rly hit me and made me squeal and upset at the audacity a fictional man had to make me feel anything close to yearning for love at all.... now onto some quotes of his I really liked! 

 "You haunt me every moment I’m not touching you."  7/10 

 “Don’t hide it, Floriane. Don’t be ashamed. Moan, scream, weep so long as it is from pleasure. Let me hear you.”  it's a 100/10 for me not bc of anything sexual but bc of what it meant for Riane, the freedom she was choosing for herself, was encouraged to allow herself to take by Ruvan's words, unravelling in his hands after living her entire life as the 'maiden' of the town 

 “If we’ve ‘hardly done anything’ then how have you become my everything?”  😖🫶🫶🫶🫶🫶🫶🫶🫶 

There's more but it's more his behavior in how he honoured Riane and swore time and again to protect her people and her, no matter what ;-;;;;; given how much I liked both the characters, it's really such a pity to me that it unravelled in a mess as it neared its end ;(
