I loved this collection. It expanded my appreciation for Bowen, who is becoming one of my favourite authors (after recently reading The House in Paris and rereading The Heat of the Day).

There is a more blatant supernatural element in these stories than I had previously encountered in Bowen. Apparently she said using the supernatural in novels is "unethical" but not in short stories. Intrigued by that opinion.

2. The Happy Autumn Fields (but thought the ending was too rushed)
3. A Day in the Dark
4. A Love Story
