Kind of like a Jim Thompson book with its awkward characters in their tragic situations kicking the dust around while evil stays next door. Jim Thompson's evil is right there is the front room with his shoes up on your coffee table while Erskine's is hidden behind a deformed nose. But there's always a fire that some how fails to clean things up just like you'd like. And you better believe there are worms in the turnips.
