If you’re going to read this graphic novel, don’t read the goodreads synopsis, it completely spoils it. I went into it completely blind and that was the best way to go. Just following along with Helene’s journey.

My favourite thing about this was the artwork. It’s absolutely stunning. It’s kind of sketchy and in greys when we follow Helene. But when she’s reading Jane Eyre the lines are more precise and the images are colourful. This book is a really smart way of implementing different colours at different times to establish themes and tones.

I also loved the message behind this. It’s a simple enough story but I can see it meaning so much to younger readers. I’d say it’s for 10-14 year olds but anyone at any age can appreciate and enjoy this.

A beautifully illustrated book with a lovely message. I need to look into the artist more.

I’m glad it had a good ending and the illustrations were really cute. Books about bullying always make me sad and it’s hard to do them well. Bit of a tw for fatphobia.

What a quirky graphic novel, but such gorgeous art. I'm sort of surprised this is considered "children's" but the messages about bullying and staying yourself are awesome.
