The Law

Bastiat, a French economist and journalist, originally published The Law as a pamphlet in 1850. It defines a just system of laws and then demonstrates how such law facilitates a free society. The main purpose of government, Bastiat argues, is the protection of the lives, liberties, and properties of its citizens.
