I wanted so so much to utterly love this book with its pirates and battles and lighthearted adventures.

The first few chapters really did it for me with the style of writing and humour and everything else but I found myself dragging my feet to finish this. It just felt very one-note towards the end of it and everything was the same tone, I was looking for fresh jokes or perhaps a section that didn't have any jokes, just for some ups and downs. 

Also, I know this was taking inspiration and written in the style of a lot of older books but some of the language and things that they were poking humour at felt a little bit uncomfortable perhaps?

There were sections that I thought were great but I would have liked the whole thing better if it had been about half as long as it was
