i bought this book on tiktok from a bookseller during her live selling (won't try this again). i watched the film adaptation back then and i was curious about the book (because others said the book was better— it always has).

it was moving at a slow pace to the point that i was getting bored with Nick's pov. I'm almost half of the book and I still didn't reach the plot (although i already know what's gonna happen— i liked that the book was more detailed). I hated Nick for what he did. I loved Amy's disciplined mind and planning strategy— like girl have a lot of time and patience. they're so perfect for each other!

i laughed at the ending because Nick has been outplayed— can't run away from all of that. poor him but deserved tho. i wish i have Amy's mind for planning so I'll never run out of ideas.

unlikable characters, intriguing until the end. Seems like it would be an entertaining movie. I definitely wouldn't say this is the best story ever, but entertaining for sure. Maybe a solid Lifetime movie.

I’m glad I didn’t read Gone Girl in my early 20s like I originally wanted to. I honestly think I would’ve found it boring back then. Reading it now, in my 30s, the book feels much more relevant in ways I didn’t expect.

Not because I relate to the extreme actions or the psychological games, but because I understand the contradictions in relationships a little more. The disappointment, resentment, distance, and confusing ways people can care about you while still hurting you. The feeling of realizing someone is emotionally complicated, or seeing patterns in them that seem inherited, almost like they are becoming versions of the people who raised them.

Some parts of the book felt uncomfortable in a familiar way. Not in the sense of “this happened to me,” but more in the way that relationships can become morally messy and emotionally conflicting. I’ve known people who were caring yet distant, sincere yet contradictory. Gone Girl exaggerated those dynamics, but the emotions underneath still felt familiar to me.

I also realised the book matches quite closely with how cynical I currently feel about love. That might sound harsh, but I think age and experiences sometimes make you more aware that relationships are not always built only on affection. There are expectations, disappointments, compromises, selfishness, and versions of ourselves we show to each other.

I didn’t enjoy reading pages of spouses complaining about one another, but I appreciated the perspectives. That’s probably what surprised me most about this book. Years ago, I would’ve dismissed it. Reading it now, I understood it.

idk if my experience reading the book was affected from already having seen the movie adaptation, but i was a bit let down with the twists compared to sharp objects. maybe i just prefer sharp objects as a book and show plot-wise and in my preferences. this was still pretty good tho, 4 stars is very high but, sharp objects is still my fav work from flynn. ill be sat for more from her !

It was well written and definitely kept me on the edge of my seat, but… it made me so mad. Twisted. Spineless. Sick. I don’t feel sorry for a single character in the book, save the lady detective. It’s pretty bad when the cop is the best person in the book.

In the beginning, it was a tough read. I kept thinking “why hell is this book so famous? Amy is the most spineless, pathetic, pick me girl”. It was hard to put up with how childish Amy was portrayed but, above all, with how much I despised Nick and how he treated her.

Needless to say, I was in for a surprise. One of the best plot twists I have read, and though I called it from the beginning “well, obviously she staged it”, the way it was developed was absolutely brilliant. Watching the characters become increasingly more psychotic, yet still rooting for them, for the shit-show to become an even bigger shit-show, was thrilling and kept me hooked until the last page. 

I have to admit that I despise Nick. He was a complete asshole and, even after being framed and having his whole life ruined, I couldn’t help but feel avenged for Amy. But maybe that is just my own psycho bitch side. 

The ending wrapped everything together in a way that keeps you wanting more (because the story is just so good that you want to keep reading and watch the characters become even more deranged) but brings closure. It is hard to end an intense story like that, and I believe Flynn executed it flawlessly.
