This book is full of stories of real people (some anonymous) who exemplify the "giver". While it took me a while to finish this book, the stories were interesting, especially that of Adam Rifkin and other "characters" who served as examples of givers versus "takers." Grant is great at research. Much of this is based on very deep and thorough knowledge of human psychology. The last few chapters were a bit extensions of earlier points made, but the last chapter on practical things you can do is perhaps most useful. Adam Grant never fails to amaze me.

Sometimes I think one doesn't find books, but they find you. This is one such book. I've been doing a lot of giving recently and have noticed that the takers are out in full force...
This book explains how to try and put some balance and how sometimes chronic giving can be helped ironically by increasing giving but in the right areas where your giving has real benefits.
Worth a read.

In this book, Adam Grant explains that human behavior generally falls into three different categories: giver, taker, and matcher. He explains how we tend to have different tendencies in different situations; however, most of us have tendencies that are more in sync with one of the categorical designations. 

He explores how givers are both at the bottom and top of the success ladder in the workplace. He guides the reader, especially the giver, how to be strategic and optimize giving to ensure that she does not burn out in the process. He also gives advice to the giver and matcher on how to recognize a taker when he sees one so that he does not fall into a taker trap. 

As a traditional giver I found this book to be a great resource that has certainly helped me recognize areas that I need to improve to make sure I am being helpful to others at work while still succeeding myself. Highly recommend this book.
