This was written by a middle aged white man and it shows. The inability to write an accurate female character is disappointing (especially since she’s the main character) to someone who wanted to see what the most read contemporary french author’s writing looked like. Had high expectations, but making me DNF a book says a lot. The misuse and overuse of slang gave me the ick.

Akhirnya! Selesai juga ngikutin kisah Alice dan Gabriel. Jujur di halaman awal aku ngerasa bosan dengan kisah yang disampaikan. Pusing banget ngelihat mereka berdua lari-lari dari kejaran setelah terdampar dan terborgol di suatu hutan. Apalagi alur yang digunakan juga maju-mundur.

Setelah memasuki halaman yang semakin menantang aku mulai enjoy untuk baca ini dan cepet bangett selesainya. Beda ketika aku baca halaman awal tadi hehehe. Ada alasan di balik kenapa mereka bisa ketemu buat pertama kalinya di hutan itu dan ngebikin aku cukup kaget dengan hal tersebut.

One of more interesting books i have read by this writter, it did suprise me.

Ho comprato questo libro anni fa, era in offerta su Amazon e la trama sembrava interessante. Solo ora lo ho letto e sinceramente non mi è piaciuto molto.

L'inizio è stato interessantissimo, ero curiosa di capire come avessero fatto i due personaggi a finire in queste situazioni.
Però presto mi sono annoiata. Non so, non riuscivo a connettere con nessuno dei due personaggi, non mi interessava sapere come sarebbe andata avanti. Ho trovato la scrittura (o forse la traduzione) poco scorrevole, i dialoghi erano assolutamente finti e poco realistici.
I personaggi stessi mi hanno dato i nervi, soprattutto Alice, non la sopportavo. Ci sono stati parecchi eventi che non mi sono sembrati verosimili e mi sono ritrovata infastidita da molte delle loro scelte.

Il plot twist finale è stato decisamente inaspettato, ma non mi è piaciuto. Non so spiegarmi bene anche perché ricordo pochi eventi, ma non è stato un gran libro secondo me.

This started off as a thrilling read with more and more clues becoming apparent and a few twists and turns, until the final twist when I realised that this was essentially just a longer version of Shutter Island. A bit disappointing to say the least but it seemed to have a few good messages of optimism and need for positivity in the face of adversity. Until the very end when the author decided to give a soppy and frankly unrealistic ending, considering the main protagonists had only known each other for 24 hours at this point.

If the author had kept the message at "find positivity and reason for living" without making it dependent on romance with the guy you don't even know and who claims it was love at first sight (while she was unconscious on a park bench no less!), then I would have forgiven him for the unoriginal plot twist. But alas, he did not and for that I award him 3 stars.

Alice wakes up on a bench in Central Park handcuffed to a strange man. Just the night before, Alice had been partying with three friends in Paris, so how did she end up in New York? The man she is handcuffed to, Gabriel, says he is a musician and was playing with his band in Dublin the night before. He is also clueless as to how he ended up in New York. Alice is a police detective in Paris and quickly realizes that she must contact her partner, so she and Gabriel steal a cell phone. When she reaches her partner, she asks him to check security camera footage in the garage where she parked her car, at which point, her memory of events ends. She and Gabriel must acquire transportation so they steal a car and try to figure out how they will get some cash. 

The premise of Central Park is fascinating, and the story constantly keeps the reader guessing as to how this whole situation occurred and who might be responsible. Clues and red herrings are parceled out throughout the book, making it impossible to tell who Alice should trust. In the last few chapters of the book everything is revealed, leaving this reader feeling let down and unimpressed. Although the first 3/4 of the book are riveting, by the end, this story seems like a waste of time. Not recommended.
