I love Lindqvist's ability to take a genre or a monster that has been done to death and transform it into something we haven't seen before.  Let the Right One In  excelled and I think perhaps set a benchmark so high Lindqvist will always struggle to reach it. Handling the Undead was on track, it took the zombie and refused to follow the rules of the sub-genre but I finished it feeling a little...blah. There were parts of this book that I thought were stupendous and Lindqvist's writing style was certainly still at a high quality but I felt like it missed a bit of the heart that was in Let the Right One In and just fell short. I can't quite put my finger on it, perhaps it was a combination of small faults that just amounted to too much, or perhaps it was because I had only read Let the Right One In 6 months earlier. I think I'll have to give it a second read before I can make any final conclusions.

The book started off pretty promising. The newly dead returned to live, leaving their graves and trying to go home. As they were not agressive, they were labeled 'reliving'. However, once you get through the initial set up, the author starts on following how two separate families are handling this bizarre situation. Oh, and there is some mental telpathy which emerges between the reliving and the living. The book is ok. But is seemed to drag on and on. The premise and conclusion was interesting, but the middle of the book dragged and dragged. I couldn't put it down simply because I need to know how it ended.
