Spoilers ahead.

While reading the book, I had to remind myself that our hero, Tom Sawyer, was still a child since there were times, especially in the earlier chapters, when I didn't like his behavior. He liked brawling for no reason and was too silly when he tried to woo Becky.

But as I settled and got more immersed in the story, I grew fond of the hero. He's very imaginative, brave, free-spirited, and strong-willed. He treats his friends well as well and does not judge someone's character depending on how society eyes a person. The way he cares and sees Huckleberry Finn as one among others is a true testament to that.

My favorite thing that Tom said was when everyone thought Tom, Finn, and Joe were dead after they tried running away from home. when they returned, everyone rejoiced for Tom and Joe while Finn stood there awkwardly and alienated. But then Tom caught his friend's hand and cried, "Aunt Polly, it's not fair, Somebody has to be glad to see Huck. He's back from the dead." And the aunt kissed and hugged Finn. Precious.

I also liked the part when Becky and Tom were lost in the cave, the former easily has given up but Tom never wavered. He somehow managed to get them out of there by exploring the dark paths of the cave with nothing but a kite string.

Despite the story about a kid, there were realistic dangers tossed at our hero. Witnessing murder, storms, and getting lost in a cave. All adventures would not have been experienced if Tom did merely conform with the society or people around him.

I do not know what will happen to Tom Sawyer in the future; he may have grown up and become a normal adult like the rest of us. I can only wish that his inner child is still in there, tickled once in a while.

I love the youthfulness of the story.
