Like Little Toot by Hardie Gramatky (1939), this book personifies a tool in the process of keeping the waterways safe. This, one though, does include humans in the form of the lighthouse keeper who tends to the lighthouse and runs the light and horn as needed. In that regard, the book is similar to Scuffy the Tugboat by Gertrude Crampton (1946)

With the building of the bridge, one might think that this book is about an old building becoming obsolete. Or maybe becoming a historic landmark and museum. Maybe finding a new life elsewhere like The Little House by Virginia Lee Burton (1942). It isn't though. It's about two structures serving the same stretch of water in their own ways.
