I was looking for a short story just to entertain me during for a couple of hours and I was not expecting to like this book so much. It's a simple story about a 15 year old that sees her boyfriend die and feels so much guilt and grief that isolates herself from the world, especially when she starts to be haunted by her late boyfriend. She wants to be with his ghost all the time until she doesn't, and that's when she starts to overcome the grief and understand why her boyfriend's ghost is still around.
It's a book written in verse, something that I was not expecting, it's so heartbreaking and beautifully written.

This is my second Lisa Schroeder book in the last day and I am totally enchanted. The emotions of the characters flowed freely through each word and had me on the verge of tears. This book is a story of learning to cope with guilt, letting go and moving on.

This just seems like a fifteen-year-old girl's journal. It's not special. It has nothing new. 
I honestly thought her idea about writing a book, which is usually in prose, using verses was amazing! I thought it was going to be tricky to write a whole story like that. But really, it seemed like she wrote that in a day. 
It's just phrases clipped at some point and joined together in what I think are supposed to be stanzas. What's the amazing idea in that?
There is simple writing, but this is just too much. You can write in a clear, unflourished way and still be brilliant, like William Goldman. But this book was just a long, tiring list of events. And the story was just uninspiring enough, so it didn't make up for the writing. 
A book shouldn't be that. It should be beautiful literature. It should convey a story with good, solid writing. This was disappointing.

Oh yes, and the only amazing literature treasure in this book that remotely resembles poetry, having it rime and everything, is this:
"Scat,
kitty cat,
scat.
I don’t need you
sitting around here
like that."

I just finished this book, and I have to admit at first I didn't think I would like it because it was written in versus. I actually had never seen a book written in poem like form (no rhyming involved though) beause it was written like that I looked over it at the bookstore, but everytime I went back there it was. I finally decided I would get it because I had seen good reviews about it. I'm very glad I did. It was beautiful. I loved the way it just went together. Sorry can't think of a word for that.

Ja, was soll ich sagen, ich bin einfach hin und weg von diesem Buch. Durch die Versform ist es viel zu kurz und leider viel zu schnell durchgelesen. Es liest sich sehr flüssig, die Sprache ist einfach gestaltet.
Man fühlt von Beginn an mit Ava mit. Ihre Gefühle werden mit wenigen Worten eindrucksvoll dargestellt. Der Verarbeitungsprozess, den sie durchlebt, kommt, durch die Kürze des Textes, sehr schnell voran. Dies tut der Plausibilität aber keinen Abbruch. Avas Entwicklung ist zu jedem Zeitpunkt nachvollziehbar, kein Schritt erscheint verfrüht oder hastig.
"In der Kürze liegt die Würze" (wie meine ehemalige Deutschlehrerin gerne sagte): 5 von 5 Punkten.
