I See London, I See France was a very charming and light read. Romance isn't a genre I usually enjoy, but I'm going to be honest here and say that the plot of this book is basically the plot of the fantasies in my head, so I had to read this. I yearn to travel, and this book gave me real FOMO while also bringing up good memories of my own romps through parts of Europe. Even though I wasn't super into the romance plot, it was still really nice to experience travel.

I expected to like this more than I did. I didn’t really like the characters. Especially Leela, the worst hypocrit I have ever read about. I also feel like we skipped over a few moments I would have loved to be there for. It’s a quick and fun story though ...

I thought this was a cute light read! I liked traveling around to all the countries with the girls. However if I was Sydney I would have ditched leela she was awwffffulllll 🙈 I really wish the author would have let us go along with Sydney and Jackson in Greece! Overall nice and light!

Generally, I am a (YA) fantasy reader, but during spring and summer, I suddenly get a craving for contemporary books. I picked up I see London, I see France because I have heard good things about the story and I was intrigued by the backpacking aspect. 

I see London, I see France follows two best friends, Sydney and Leela, on their trip through Europe. They are childhood best friends and they have always dreamed to go on a backpacking trip through Europe. However, Sydney’s mum is agoraphobic, making her reluctant to leave the house. She is afraid she will get panic attacks and embarrass herself and her two daughters. As the oldest, Sydney takes a lot of responsibility for her mom. So when it is finally time for her and Leela to fulfill their dreams, she is very reluctant to go. At first, Leela plans to get with her college boyfriend. When she finds out he has cheated on her, she dumps him and convinces Sydney to go with her. So far, so good. Until her cheating ex-boyfriend and his very handsome friend show up in the same airplane as Sydney and Leela. 

First I have to see I have very mixed feelings about this book. They were a lot of things I really enjoyed about it but they were also a lot of things I really disliked. I did really liked the travel aspect of the story. It really made me want to backpack through Europe too! I appreciate that the author tried to make the whole backpacking experience realistic with budgeting and luggage getting lost. Also, irritation with your fellow traveler played a role which is likely to happen at certain moments when you are traveling with someone. However, the stops they make in the European cities, the sides they see and their activities seem very shallow. The author did not succeed in capturing the atmosphere of the different places. Or at least of the cities that I have actually visited myself. 

I did really like the main character, Sydney. I found her relatable, likable and I also felt a lot of her. However, I did NOT like Leela at all. She was a horrible friend most of the time. She is whinny, selfish and made almost the whole trip about her. I felt so frustrated listening to these scenes. Her characterization took away a lot of my enjoyment of the story. I did really like the side characters, like Kat and the Australian travelers they meet along the way. They really made the whole backpack storyline feel more real. I also enjoyed that the characters were a little bit older (college/uni age) and I could relate to them a little bit more. 

I listened to the audiobook. So it is hard for me to comment on the writing style. However, it was easy to listen to – except when Leela was complaining. Although I did not think the author managed to capture the atmosphere of the individual place, I did think she did a great job of describing the charm of backpacking. If that makes sense. 

Overall, it was an okay read. I did enough some parts of it but there were also many parts where I was thoroughly annoyed. You might want to check it out if you love traveling books.

i quite literally INHALED THIS BOOK. It was so easy to read and fast paced and something was constantly happening. The book makes you want to live along side the characters and travel with them! 

A lot of times when I read books that are as spunky as this one, I end up hating the main character because they’re usually over dramatic and insanely girly and annoying throughout the entire story. But Sydney didn’t annoy me at all, and she actually had problems that intertwined with the novel without taking away from the constant fun.
