Warning #2: I'm really pissed off about this. Stand back while I unleash my rage.

There are bad instalments in series. Then there is Iced: the worst instalment in the history of bad instalments. Congratulations KMM, you managed the impossible.



I really should have gotten drunk before I started reading this. I have so many negative things to say about Iced I don't know where to start. Oh wait I do. The main problem here? KMM writing a non-YA book with a YA mc who acts like a freaking 8 year old, in a world that is all about overbearing über Alpha males obsessed with dicks, fucks, and beating the shit out of everyone. And I'm not saying that because any of it shocked me (I happen to love sexed-up overbearing über Alpha males but not when they're so obviously out of context). No, I'm only saying it because it was so poorly done. Write YA or write Adult. Make a freaking choice and stick to it.

Frankly Ms Moning, have you ever been around a teenager? It sure doesn't look like it from what I've just read. Then again, maybe you are the teenager. Why else would you use song lyrics as chapter titles?

Frankly Ms Moning, were you trying to shock your readers? Sorry to say it didn't work. The whole ordeal was pathetic, ridiculous and downright unrealistic. And poorly executed (I said it before and I'll say it again). Do you really expect me to believe that (view spoiler)[big bad immortal (hide spoiler)] Ryodan and (view spoiler)[druid-turned UP (hide spoiler)] Christian both have a crush on an insignificant, immature teenage girl? PLEASE. Some of your scenes read like a freaking teenage drama. What the hell were you thinking when you wrote this? 

Frankly Ms Moning, did you suddenly lack inspiration? I mean, you did try to pull a Mac + Barrons + V'Lane on us again with Dani as an underage, arrogant Mac, Ryo as Barrons and Christian as V'Lane. EPIC FAIL. Because ultimately Iced feels like a crappy version of the first 5 books in the series. 

Frankly Ms Moning, were editors on strike before Iced was published? Because you know, they could have trimmed a good 400 pages from the book and no one would have noticed. Because let's face it, this is the most boring book ever. Blah blah blah blah, oh look someone iced the place, "I'm Dani the Mega who is going to save the world and Ryo is a bastard", blah blah blah blah, oh look someone iced the place, "I'm Dani the Mega who is going to save the world and Ryo is a bastard", blah blah blah blah, oh look someone iced the place, "I'm Dani the Mega who is going to save the world and Ryo is a bastard." Actually I'm not being fair here Ms Moning because you did achieve something with this book: I'm fairly certain that with Kat's POVs you hold the cure for insomnia. I have to admit the pace of the book picks up towards the end but it was much too little, much too late.

Frankly Ms Moning, what happened to Kat & Jo? Did you just keep the names and change the personalities? As far as I remember they used to be strong characters. Either I have early Alzheimer's or you messed up pretty badly. Kat is so pathetic she makes me wish Rowena was back. Jo is ridiculous as a delusional, idiotic, love sick puppy dog. Frankly Ms Moning, the only thing I can thank you for is Ryo. And I don't care what other people think. Yes he is a total (check all that apply) bastard/asshole/douche/whatever but man would I love to be on his breakfast menu. And we all know what he likes to have for breakfast right?

Frankly Ms Moning, what was that pathetic attempt at a cliffhanger ending? Do you seriously think I'm going to lose sleep over it? Think again.
 
I was ready to like this book despite the bad vibes, bad reviews and lack of JZB. Before I read Iced I didn't understand why some readers were so mad at KMM. Man do I get it now. I resent KMM for making me go through this. I didn't DNF the book because I kept waiting for something significant to happen and didn't want to miss anything that might be important in the grand scheme of things. I really should have DNFed the freaking book. Because now that I've read it I'm not even sure I want to read Burned. I was supposed to reread the series before it's released and I'm not sure I want to do that either. Thank you Ms Moning for ruining it all for me.

I too struggles with reading Dani's POV for the first couple of chapters. But once I got over all the fekings and dudes, it was alright and I didn't regret reading it because it gave me a good insight into what the next book brought.

Yes it was inappropriate reading what some of the older characters thought about a child, but truth be told - they meant well.

Not my favorite Fever book. 

It's okay, though. I got to revisit one of my favorite fictional worlds and revel in the macabre and horror of Dublin, Ireland, AWC that Moning has created so beautifully. It's just as unapologetically dark, sexual, and fierce as the first five books. 

But seeing it through Dani's brash, fourteen-year-old eyes was not my favorite viewpoint. I am not really a Dani fan. I don't mind seeing her through Mac's eyes, but she still wasn't a favorite character of mine in the previous books. I was hoping to get through this book as quickly as possible so I could move on.

That didn't really happen.

The book was interesting enough once I forced myself to read more than a page at a time. Overall, I enjoyed it. I'm even eager to see what happens to Dani later, because she actually became a bit more interesting to me. I'm not sure if I like her yet. She needs to grow up some more. Time will tell.

When this book actually got to the storyline, it was interesting. But Dani's inner commentary on everything under the sun drove me nuts and I didn't enjoy it much at all. *Sigh*

Oh my goodness, I freaking LOVE Karen Marie Moning for creating such amazing books. I adored the Fever series. It's one of my all-time favorite series ever. I was so excited when I heard there were going to be more books set in the Fever world. Iced is a spin-off series, and just as awesome as the Fever series, even without Barrons in it (sigh, I really wanted more of Barrons though). There are three parts to the book, and mainly, the story is told through Dani's POV. It interchanges with Christian's and Kat's (the leader of the side-seers), but pretty infrequently. The story and plot suck you in and don't let you go. There's tons of action, and I didn't expect the amount of humor there actually was! Iced is definitely one of my favorite books of the year. 

Dani is the most amazing character ever, even though I was wary of her being only 14. But once I got started reading, I didn't even care how old she was, just that she is the most kick-ass girl ever! She is funny and entertaining, and I never once got bored with her. I love the things she says, her unique way of talking. There was one part where I was dying of laughter where she says, "Holy strawberries, Batman, we're in a jam!" And, "Holy Kleenex, Batman, it was right under our nose and we blew it!” She is such a unique character and I'm so glad she got her own series.

Ryodan. Christian. Dancer. Who to choose? I honestly have no clue who Dani will end up with, if she ever does. But she does end up sleeping with someone by the end of the series, and I'm really hoping it will be with Dancer! He's such a geek, but I imagine him being some sexy 17-year-old adorable one. I love him so much, but he obviously has some dark history going on that Dani doesn't know about. I loved Christian in the beginning, but then he started being a little creepy. Getting inside his head was interesting, seeing his hatred for what he's becoming, and his 'love' for Dani. Still, he's funny as hell sometimes, especially when arguing with Ryodan. And Ryodan, well, he's no Barrons (honestly, who can be? uh, no one, that is), but I really don't know how to feel about him. He's an enigma, just like Barrons and the rest of his men, and very intriguing. It's obvious that Dancer and Christian both care for Dani, either as a friend or more, but with Ryodan, you just never know. Oh, and Lor is pretty damn funny too.

I am so, so happy with this book. I had such high expectations for Iced, and luckily, it did not disappoint. The only part I didn't like was that Mac and Barrons didn't appear as much as I wanted. Still, I think Dani, Ryodan, Christian, and Dancer will be more than enough to satisfy me until we return to Mac and Barrons' books.
