This whole series was amazing, and I really liked how it was written.

Emi and Shiro are great, and I wouldn’t mind reading a short novella on what they’re going to do after the last chapter. I wanted to see what their lives would look like now – the meetings with the other Kunitsukami; Yumei’s reaction to seeing Inari alive again; what Emi was going to do about her human life; what her and Inari’s lives would look like. I was getting a bit scared near the end that Emi would actually die so I wasn’t expecting Shiro to die. The scenes after the seven year time jump were interesting to read and I liked seeing how things developed.

I liked reading about what happened in this book, especially the scenes showing Emi trying to figure out how to create shikigami as well as Emi and Shiro’s last day before the solstice.

The side characters were all still interesting, and yet I wanted to see more of them. I’m curious if Yumei has his own book because I liked him and I thought that his character was interesting (being the Tengu and Prince of Shadows).

I can’t wait to try other books by this author, and I definitely want to read more books with characters like Shiro. Also, I liked how the switch between Inari and Shiro was shown and even though it made sense how it happened in this book, I’d definitely be curious to read a book where that is more pronounced (for example in a shifter).

My favorite of the series!! Keep me on my toes the entire time and loved the ending. The series needs to be animated (shiro is giving inuyasha in the best way)

Трилогия «Алая зима» - это история про девочку Эми, которую воспитывали как будущий сосуд для божественного духа. В восьмилетнем возрасте богиня Аматэрасу отметила её, и с тех пор Эми 10 лет живет в храмах, молится, постится, ̶с̶л̶у̶ш̶а̶е̶т̶ ̶р̶а̶д̶и̶о̶ ̶р̶а̶д̶о̶н̶е̶ж̶, и верит, что в день солнцестояния станет богиней. Пока не выясняется небольшая деталь – дух Аматэрасу сойдет в её тело, но уничтожит душу и разум. Тело Эми продолжит жить, но сама она умрет.

Внутренний конфликт Эми и есть триггер для дальнейшей истории. Эмоции начинают рвать её на части – она зла на служителей храма, которые не говорили ей всю правду о церемонии, она боится и не хочет умирать, она понимает, что выбора особо нет, ну и конечно её мучает чувство долга перед Аматэрасу. Но книги, естественно, не было бы, если бы весь конфликт решался исключительно внутри. На ночь глядя расстроенную Эми несет в лес, где она находит раненого лиса – кицунэ – который, естественно, оказывается не совсем лисом. 

В детстве у меня была книга японских сказок, там были истории и про кицунэ, и про тэнгу, и про капп, и про всяких других волшебных существ, и встретить их в этой книге было для меня первым приятным бонусом – особенно когда выяснилось, что это только первый магический слой этого мира, и грядет знакомство с практически всем пантеоном синтоистских богов (а я, надо сказать, страшно люблю книжки, миры которых выстроены на мифах). Спойлерить не буду, но скажу, что сказочной Японии в книге полно – не только существ, но и природы, элементов быта, магических артефактов и всего прочего. Понятия не имею, насколько всё это аутентично и что сказали бы японские читатели - скажем, тут явно упрощены родственные отношения между ками, но меня с моим поверхностным уровнем погружения в культуру ничего не напрягало (как, скажем, напрягало в Shadow of the Fox Джули Кагавы).

Эми поначалу может показаться такой девочкой-овечкой, но конфликт запускает серьезную трансформацию её как персонажа. Она начинает совершать безрассудные поступки, лезть в драки, и вообще весьма на равных держится с могущественными ками – и это тот самый пример того самого «сильного женского персонажа», который побеждает не физической силой, а силой духа. 

Ну и последний момент, который, вероятно, кого-то отпугнет от «Алой зимы», а кого-то наоборот: тут прямо анимешная какая-то романтическая линия, с сердечками в глазах, классической сценой «девочка внезапно видит мальчика без рубашки и приходит в смятение», описаниями поцелуев на три страницы и так далее. Лично я считаю, что химия у персонажей здесь отличная, а хорошим свуном в принципе книжку не испортить, но если от бабочек в животе у вас сводит зубы – берите на свой страх и риск.

A heartwarming, expansive, and cathartic tale about real love. While the glossary terms in this trilogy can be pretty annoying to hop aroudn electronically, the worldbuilding is impeccable leading to a high note in the end of the novel.

           This series was a fun read, even though I struggled with this last one a bit. I'm really not sure why, as the momentum was the same as the first two books. I expected this book to be for a younger audience but there's definitely a scene around 60% through the book that I was not expecting. Overall, I'm satisfied with the ending.
