I love how when I read this book I start to think in Walker’s language. Like in my day to day life my brain will just input “my italics” I to my thoughts and look at peoples’ noses in passing. 

I first read this book in my senior year English class (which I was failing) and didn’t really take the time or had the capacity to enjoy it, but reading it now was immeasurably wonderful. Walker writes with this warm confidence like she is telling these essays to the reader beside a fireplace during a blizzard, such a great time reading this.

After reading Rebecca Solnit’s memoir I noticed that both Solnit and Walker lived in San Francisco at the same time and probably went to the same nuclear protests ran by Solnit’s brother. I wonder if they knew each other.
