Snow Surveying

The snow that accumulates at high elevations in the Western States is a natural storage reservoir from which the major part of the water supply for these States is derived. Forecasting the water supply is a service of interest to farmers, ranchers, shippers, bankers, and agencies concerned with power production, water supplies, and flood control.
