First Austen read ever. She absolutely slayed. Opened with a masterful drag and ended with a letter that should have been addressed to me.

4 ⭐️. This was such a pleasant surprise! I normally don't vibe with Austen as much. However, this book fell on the right side of the tracks for me. Anne's character and the themes explored in this work made the reading experience pleasant, entertaining, and wholly engaging. On the surface this might seem like an early Georgian-era version of the second chance romance trope, yet upon reading I was happy to discover it is truly more the coming into confidence and self of a woman in her twenties. Anne reflects upon her past and the customs of society around her and in doing so finds her footing which empowers her to set her future course to her own hand. The pages are lined with social commentary in which Austen's own voice shines, and so this novel is a welcome addition to the male-penned literature of that time. Definitely my favourite Austen work. I especially enjoyed the characters of Mary and the Crofts.

it wasn't angsty as i expected it to be from the synopsis. there are some parts that i skimmed through because they seemed unnecessary. i love how mature they were. i somehow feel like the yearning is not enough. captain wentworth's letter tho.

Same as Pride and Prejudice. A bit slow at times, but very funny and an interesting read.

After watching the new adaptation I actually love this book more. I realized all the little details were needed. And the final proclamation of love in a letter? Slow burns were even better in the 19th century.
