Swapping Lives

The books isn’t absolutely horrible, but I would definitely not recommend it nor would I ever read it again. It was light-hearted, but extremely slow. It was over descriptive and had way too much background information on each character. The whole book is supposed to be about two women swapping lives, but the swap doesn’t actually occur until you have read over half the book. There was no twist at the end and I, even with all of the background information, didn’t really like either of the two main characters. I found them to be both annoying and whiny. Plus any time something juicy was about to occur, it just didn’t.
I have to admit I did enjoy the last 20 pages or so of the book. In the end, both women realize they love what they have and they both need to make a change. It has a happy ending, but getting there was just a struggle. I didn’t feel the story was actually there.

This was a fun book to read. I loved the characters, even though they were kind of shallow and wacky. It would be fun to swap lives with someone totally different than me.

Yikes, this book was a total mess. It was 3/4 back story! The actual plot didn't start until disc 6, and it was a 10-disc audio book! You got into every character's head and life story while two characters were in the middle of a conversation, making it incredibly confusing once the author jumped back into the present moment. Usually, I don't mind that writing technique, but when you're doing it for every character, rather than the main, and jumping between them all, it feels bogged down and slow. No humor either, which is disappointing, given Green's stellar work on "Mr. Maybe" and "Jemima J." This one was just...bad.

I usually really enjoy Jane Green's books. While I liked this one, I felt like lacked something. When reading her other books, I felt connected to the main characters. I didn't get that connection from this one. She spent a lot time on what the women and their lives were like before the swap, a little on what their lives were like during the swap and virtually no time on their lives post-swap. I felt like she needed to spend a little more time on what they learned from the swap and what their lives were like afterwards. It disappointed me a bit.
