Villains Crime and Community in the Inner City

How does a criminal subculture perpetuate itself? This is an entertaining and illuminating account – based on participant observation and extended interviews – of the transition from adolescent street crime to adult ‘hidden economy’ crime in one London neighbourhood. It also looks at the marked differences in women’s involvement in lawbreaking, and explores how deviance is linked to the social construction of gender.
