I've always been a fan of Jasper Fforde eclectic style of writing, even if I do prefer his Nursery Crime work. The Thursday Next novels are always a joy to read, full of mad cap ideas, literary characters and outlandish notions. In Something Rotten Thursday is babysitting Hamlet while political conspiracy rages around her, yet she is closer than ever to getting her husband returned to her. To top it all off, she needs to win a game of croquet to prevent the end of the world as she knows it. 
The characters are complex and unique and Fforde creates such a fully realised world it's hard to believe it isn't real. The eye for detail is phenomenal and this is what really makes these books come to life. I cannot wait to delve into the next one!

I'm rereading the whole Thursday Next series and I'm having such a great time! I think I'm actually enjoying the books even more the second time around:) Something Rotten is probably one of my favorite installment in the series and I just love having Hamlet in the real world, along with Lady Hamilton, an extra dodo, St Zvlkx... This is just brilliant, brilliant, brilliant!

The best book in the Thursday Next series & a hilarious must-read! I really hope Jasper Fforde will write a follow-up to Thursday Next's adventures:) Not to be missed: the conversation between Hamlet & Lady Hamilton, complete with Old English and Courier Bold, it's hilarious!

This is my favorite so far of the Thursday Next series. While I enjoyed The Well of Lost Plots and it's entirely "fictional" setting, I much preferred the setting of Thursday's alternative reality.
This book was full of literary allusions that made me laugh when I realized them. Fforde weaves them in so effortlessly, avoiding any undue scrutiny. They're like little Easter eggs for literature enthusiasts.
The plot flowed along brilliantly. The characters were all well-developed. Everything fit together. This series is rapidly climbing to the top of my all-time favorites list. I can't find a single thing that I didn't like about this book.

I highly recommend this book and the entire series. It is quite simply, amazing.
