I loved it! This was a cute story...Jack Spratt & Mary Mary investigating Humpty Dumpty great fall a accident or murder....ooohhhhh. A lot of nursery rhyme character in this... some parts of the story were predictable but I enjoyed it. Good Fun Read.

The Big Over Easy by Jasper Fforde

Like I always do, I read the second book first, so this book was a little odd as I already knew the characters, but they were a step backwards from the ones I'd met. I didn't enjoy it as much as the The Fourth Bear, but I'm not sure why. I love the idea that nursery rhymes are real and their deaths have to be solved, but this one seemed over complicated. Sometimes I couldn't remember which character went with which name. As much as I love Ashley, I don't get why aliens are in this universe. They're completely unrelated to nursery rhymes. Overall an enjoyable book that has the much needed 'pull', but isn't as good as other works of Jasper Fforde. Regardless, I'll still be on the hunt for the third and fourth books.

I enjoyed the book, although not as much as the Thrusday Next series. Still, it's very entertaining, with a lot of wordplays, plot twists and Fforde's witty imagination hard at work ! He plays with the conventions of detective fiction and the outcome of the investigation is as weird as it gets! There are wacky characters, hilarious situations and references to Thursday Next's world (a nice touch!).

Unconvinced that a former convict and millionaire philanthropist has been murdered by his suicide-victim ex-wife, detective inspector Jack Spratt and his assistant, Mary Mary, uncover a plot involving money laundering and asylum-seeking titans.

I enjoyed this book but not quite as much as the first four Thursday next novels.
It took me a little while to get into the book mainly because I wasn't quite sure what to make of the Mary Mary character. I didn't really like her until she came out definitively on Jack's side. She's definitely not a favorite though.
As with the Thursday next novels, I love Fforde's seamless integration of, in this case, nursery tales with the "real," albeit alternative, world. Fforde's wordplay is incredible. HIs careful manipulation of the plot is masterful.
I really do enjoy Fforde's work.
