         Jayne Anne Krentz is one of those authors whose books you can just blow through without having to put much thought into them.  I know that doesn’t sound like the most positive description, but every now and then, that kind of book is a great way to just turn your brain off for a while.  She is the author who writes the “curl up on the couch with a blanket and a bottle of wine” kind of books.  They’re good stories, they’re easy to read, and they’re immensely satisfying. 

            This is book one in what I assume will be a trilogy about three women who had a shared traumatic experience.  Book one focuses on Pallas and Ambrose, the two of them trying to figure out what happened at a sinister sleep institute.  There are nefarious intentions afoot amongst strangely supernatural happenings.  It was fast-paced, intriguing, and included just the right amount of spice. 

            Krentz will never win the Booker Prize, but she does craft an entertaining story.  I do look forward to her books when they pop up on one of my lists, so I was pretty happy to get to this series.
