I skimmed the second half of this book.

I'm not sure really what possessed me to read it, but I knew from the writing style early on that it wasn't going to be my cup of tea. I didn't care for either main character, all of the worldbuilding was told, not really shown or interestingly done, and I just really couldn't get into it. I would start to, I'd really start to enjoy it, and then the characters would say something really unrealistic or just plain out of character and I was pulled right out of the story.

I also realize that it's book 6, and I just didn't bother to read the first 5 books. I figure this may have contributed to my lack of enjoyment. However, after reading this, I don't think I'm missing much by skipping out on this series. 

I did finish it, and I guess the romance was cute, but the whole "I recognized you as my soul mate the moment we met" is SO overdone. There are books that have done it well and put their own unique spin on it. This book... not so much. Pretty general and basic stuff. If you don't read much romance, you'll probably really enjoy it. If you read a lot of romance (like I do), you'll probably be bored stiff. 

But, okay. Vincent. He was adorable. So the world has alien influences (probably better explained in earlier books, but I skipped those, so...) and one of the creatures in the world are dust bunnies. They are small, fluffy predators with six legs and four eyes, and the main character has one, Vincent, as a pet. And he was so freaking funny. He would incapacitate attackers and protect his people, while also crying for cookies and painting every surface he could find, and it was like a more intuitive puppy with a dark side. He was just fantastic. I'd almost recommend the book across the board just for him, because he is mentioned pretty frequently.

But yeah, overall, just a bit disappointing as both a romance and a sci-fi/fantasy adventure. I think it's a really cool idea, with the alien world and all the stuff that comes with that, but I just found this particular installment to be lacking. The romance was cute, but nothing that blew me away, and the adventures were interesting, but nothing shocking or gripping. It's pretty standard stuff, nothing new. Except Vincent. I love that little guy. He was great.
