this is my favourite book ever, and not just because I too am a troubled student with short dark hair named frances - though I’d be a liar if I said that had nothing to do with it!

I probably should have read  The Catcher in the Rye first, since that really framed the way I see this one now. Franny, though much older, expresses many of the same grievances as Holden. The whole second part is mostly Zooey talking some sense into her. The third-person narrative here allowed for a view that wasn't possible with Catcher because of its intimate first-person mode. If you read this before you read Catcher, You'll probably interpret Catcher differently.

This was just okay. Nine Stories was wonderful, but this sort of picks up the tone of "Teddy" which I wasn't too keen on. The religious stuff is wacky, but it's still an okay book.

This was a book that I’ve been meaning to pick up for over a year now, so when I ran into it at the bookstore this week, I decided to buy and read it. I read The Catcher In The Rye three years ago, and adored both the story and the writng style that Salinger created. His characters are well-crafted and three dimensional and actually have something to say. That was the case for this book as well. Although it is a short book, no longer than 150 pages, it was everything that I expected from a Salinger book. The book is divided into two parts, one part about Franny, and one part about Zooey. (in which they both come together as well) The writing was very much my taste, even though it is a classic, it was easy enough to read. The meaning behind the conversations, the setting, the family brought me chills. This book is filled to the brim with beautiful quotes, love and meaning.

Very happy I chose to pick it up!

I read this years ago and remember liking it. Also read The Catcher in the Rye several times which I loved more than Franny and Zooey.
