This book looks at the works of Foujita (1886 to 1968), who was the first Asian to become a full member of the Parisian School. Foujita's art "reflected a Western influence without ever losing the allusive Eastern feeling that the artist inherited from the long graphic tradition of his Japanese ancestors. His love of pure line is epitomized in the nudes and portraits of the 1920s which are perhaps his greatest achievement. He also painted imaginative landscapes and meticulous objects in which even the most commonplace objects appear in a uniquely poetic light, tinged with a remarkable sense of humor." - book jacket.
