4.5 stars - (loved it, favorite!)

I cried so hard over this. Not just tearing up which is what usually happens the rare times I cry over books. I was full on sobbing and as I was reading in the living room my siblings asked me if I was ok XD The only other time this has happened was with Little Women, I cry over movies easier. BATTY. Sweet, precious Batty. I love her so much and my heart ached for her to feel unwanted. A lovely lovely continuation of "Act 2" of the Penderwicks. I very much enjoyed little Lydia... she somewhat reminds me of my little brothers... and Ben! So sweet. Also Nick. I loved Nick in this one and the legendary sports drills. Poor girls XD

It reads like an older contemporary stories: a mixture of Edgar Eager, Eleanor Estes, Mary Norton, Beverly Cleary, and Joseph C. Lincoln (for the setting).

Wowowowow...this book made me feel so many feelings. I absolutely loved it, maaaaybe even more than the first book. Or at least just as much. ;)

Nostalgic and refreshing novel for middle years without the grit found in so many books at the moment. Harps back to a more innocent age while still weaving in blended families and their complications. I think this will appeal to many of our "only child" students wanting a glimpse into the intricacies of big families.
