The only good part about this book is the romance and even that is pretty one-note. The world-building is very sloppy - what is the beloved, what is the prophecy about her, what are the tasks, how does the Myriad work, and what is their purpose are just A FEW of the very basic question I had that should have been answered. This book desperately needed an editor. Jess Wisecup detailed almost every second of every day - it should have been 400 pages at the most. There were whole chapters that were irrelevant to the plot. Speaking of the plot, where was it after the first 150 pages?? It didn’t pick up again until truly the last 75 pages, and even then it was confusing. Pacing was extremely off. The writing itself was better than most indie books I’ve read recently, but this was so meh.

I absolutely adored this book. What a fantastic debut novel from Jess Wisecup. It's the perfect mix of fantasy and romance for me 🌶🌶. I think this is the fastest I've read a book of this length. The cover is gorgeous, it's well written and has a lot of likeable characters. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 Bring on August

Sorry what? A book that exceeds every expectation? A super relatable main character who is both bad*ss and has a giant heart? A love interest that blows all other book boyfriends out of the water? Side characters with their own personalities that you can't get enough of? 

This story has it all. Honestly. The setting is interesting, and the magic system makes sense. The plot moves at a good pace, and I didn't find any parts difficult to get through. Our characters show consistent development throughout the storyline, and never left me feeling like they were too predictable. The action was fully fleshed out and descriptive, which helped me feel like I was part of it. The...*spicy action scenes* were well written and descriptive in a flattering way (not sure if that makes sense, but sometimes those scenes can be very cringey and uncomfortable to read and this was not!). 

This story tops the list for me. If you like ACOTAR, The Girl of Fire and Thorns, or Sea of Shadows, read this. I can almost guarantee that you will love it (maybe even more than those other books I mentioned). I know I did.
