A goodie. Herron comes up with convincing convolutions that draw the desperate-to-be-loved back into the murk of the Spooky. Once again, he takes them - physically and geographically - out of their ‘comfort’ zone, and away from the (seeming) indifference of Lamb’s parental care. You could see it being a trope, but it’s done with thought, and careful scheming.
