Gripping stuff! My first Grisham novel and I was impressed. The last page was a bit of a disappointment (he lies to his wife after all they've been through!? What?!), but all in all a satisfying and entertaining novel. I'm looking forward to watching the movie!

A well-paced action thriller that involves lawyers, the Cayman Islands and the suburbs. Went quite quickly. The last chapters were almost too evident regarding the storyline, but still it was entertaining.

My first John Grisham, liberated from my Dad's bookshelf; it didn't have me captivated but it's a decent quick read. I might give another of his books a go as a result and I'd like to see the movie adaptation of this one.

The Firm by John Grisham is one of the least offensive 2.5-star books out there, and I cannot emphasise that enough. There is nothing wrong with this story other than the fact that it is a bit predictable.

Mitch McDeere, a freshly graduated tax law student with a promising future, takes a job at Bendini, Lambert & Locke, a young yet prestigious firm where each lawyer is guaranteed to be a multi-millionaire once retired. The company pays off Mitches student debt, helps mortgage a house, provides a flashy BMW and promises a considerable salary. Seems too good to be true, right? Duh. After a fair amount of not much, McDeere is contacted by the FBI, who are trying to get information about B, L & L. You see, this firm is not just doing the standard white-collar crime which everyone seems to be okay with, no, this one is linked with the mafia. Of course. 

The book follows our main character through his attempts to expose the mafia without being killed, and I can't lie, it is a lot of fun. Your heart pounds with anticipation. Sure, you know what's going to happen. You know that there will be a few times shit hits the fan, and then everything will be fine and they’ll live on an island somewhere relishing in their millions. You know that each build-up of collapse is simply a brush of sweat off McDeeres head, but you want to figure out how he will do it. Reading this book is a lot of; “Huh? Right. Oh. Yeah, sure that’s cool”, and I can't say I didn't enjoy it. 

I wouldn’t tell you to go out of your way to read this book. It’s kind of dumb, its a nice quasi thriller since you have the constant comfort of knowing things will be fine. So yeah, sure, the mafia, cool.

The writing is bland and although it's suppose to have a dramatic, thrilleristic feel I felt bored to tears.
The film was better at telling this story than the author. Sadly.

Mitch qualified at Harvard, third in his class, and is sought by law firms all over America. The one that gets him is small, but well-respected, and pays him beyond his wildest dreams. But then the nightmares begin - secret files, bugs in the bedroom, colleagues' mysterious deaths and mob money.

My first Grisham book. 
It was a very fine story, actually. So intense and exciting, especially the ending.
The characters and the story were very well developed. But I wasn’t that much attracted to the book overall, I don’t know why. And it’s sad because I’m a sucker for these kind of books :)) maybe because I listened to the audiobook, not sure.
