Choosing Big Technologies

A collection of 13 papers presented to a symposium in Florence, Italy, November 1991, and subsequently published as a special issue of History and Technology vol.9, nos.1-4. They explore the arguments and motivations of the interest groups--scientists, engineers, industrialists, bureaucrats, politicians--in deciding whether or not a government will take on a large technological project, such as space exploration, remote sensing equipment, particle accelerators, and fancy aircraft.
