Harry Potter and the Cursed Child - Parts I and II

5 stars. I mean, it's Harry Potter. And yeah, Cursed Child gives off a way different vibe than the original series, but not only is it a different medium, the characters are older too. Magic isn't so new and exciting anymore. This is about what's become of Harry, Ron, Hermione, and their kids. They've all matured. Albus Severus Potter is the main character now. Ron was the only character I definitely still felt was completely the same as in the original series. His humor was there, his stubbornness and bravery. Harry felt...lacking, but he was hardened by war and kids and whatnot. Hermione didn't seem like Hermione, I can't stand to see her so tied down. Anyway. Moving on. ALBUS AND SCORPIUS, SITTING IN A TREE, K-I-S-S-I-N- oh just kidding, Scorpius and Rose, duh. Scorpius/Rose was soo forced and honestly I felt like Rowling only wrote that to make up for the Dramione fandom, get a Malfoy and a Granger together. Except Scorpius acted silly, more like Ron, so it was basically Ron/Hermione all over again. It was embarrassing how much Scorpius drooled over Rose. She was terrible to him, but he still thought she was the brightest bud in the bush. Albus/Scorpius had SO MUCH POTENTIAL. I was crossing my fingers for it to become canon but heteronormativity wins in front of a family friendly audience :// whatever. There's gonna be some real good fanfic about them, I just know it. I read the big spoiler about Delphi when I was trying to Google her age. I mean, Albus, really? Scorpius is right there. Being a jealous and stuff. Overall, Cursed Child was a nice thing to have. To think about. Like 'good for Harry, he has a nice kid and kept his friends and everything turns out all right in the end'. The whole time travel thing was difficult, but I get that it was all about fixing their relationships and understanding their identities, etcetera. A little disappointed we didn't get to hear about Luna and Neville very much, the rest of the Weasleys, little Teddy... but I suppose there's only so much you can condense into a two-act play. I'm really gonna miss Harry and his story, but there's gotta be an end to everything, and this is a good place for Rowling to stop. Harry will live forever, as long as we keep reading.

Fun to revisit the wizarding world, but it didn’t feel like the original series to me. Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is a stage play script set years after the original books, following the next generation at Hogwarts and the complicated relationship between Harry and his son. It leans heavily into big magical “what if” scenarios, time-bending plot threads, and high-stakes consequences, with plenty of familiar names and nostalgia woven in. I enjoyed parts of it, mostly because I’ll always be happy to step back into the world, even briefly. It’s fast, dramatic, and you can absolutely picture how visually incredible it must be on stage. There are moments that feel emotional and meaningful, especially around family, legacy, and the pressure of living up to a famous name. But as a reading experience, it didn’t fully land for me. The format is very different (it’s a script, not a novel), so it lacks the depth, internal voice, and slow magic-building that made the original series so immersive. Some plot choices felt a bit too chaotic for my taste, and I didn’t always feel the characters matched the versions I’d carried with me from the books. Overall: worth reading if you’re a longtime fan and want more Hogwarts nostalgia, but go in expecting something that feels like a stage production, not a continuation of the novels.
