Marcadamente cético, José Saramago possui uma perspetiva inigualável que certamente muitos de nós já tentaram conceber anteriormente, sem sucesso; a ironia, a crueza, a simples entrega de frases secas e sarcásticas denota bem o humor português, coberto d'uma ironia profundamente sardónica e intelectualmente estimulante.

Since I started reading José Saramago I have been wanting to get through almost all of his books. I don't know why I only want to read all the books from very specific authors. It is not like I have loved José Saramago, and I don't that is really bad to say since he won the Nobel prize, and especially because I'm Portuguese people always want to punch me after I say this. I really enjoy "O Homem Duplicado" which was out of this world amazing. The two others I read were pretty meh. My mom had "Caim" on her shelf and I don't know why I hadn't picked it up before. Maybe because I didn't hear people talking about it much. I was more focused on getting the most popular books. Nevertheless, this one was still quite popular, and after realizing it was indeed about the Bible I was super intrigued and had to start reading it. Plus it is a pretty short read that I finished in a couple of days. I really really enjoyed it. I wouldn't say it blow me away and change my life, mainly it was one of the most entertaining and funny things I read in a long long time. If you're a religious person you may not love this, but I do recommend you give it a try anyway. I don't believe in God so I don't quite know how religious people would feel about this but I guess that also depends on the religious person. Overall, I think this was one of my favorites by Saramago. It was an enticing, captivating, eye-opening, and, above all, super addicting read. I'm so happy I read it and I would do it all over again. Plus there are some phrases here that I would literally write on my forehead ahahah.
