It seemed as if she might have been eating her lunch in the back somewhere, perhaps using a coffin as a picnic table. She had the look of a woman who brought her own sandwiches from home.

Plus, she wanted him to be handsome. Reggie hardly ever came across a handsome man. There must be at least twenty good-looking women for every barely decent-looking man. And it would really help too if he looked like Daniel Day-Lewis, or at any rate Daniel Day-Lewis in his Nathaniel Poe incarnation.

‘You're not going to ask if I found any evidence of foul play?'

 'Me?' Reggie said. 'Oh no, sorry - I was so busy totting up ow many crimes you've just admitted to, beginning with impersonating someone and escalating upwards.'

They performed mostly in hotels, the odd luxury train, tailor-made site-specific stuff like tonight. (You don't have to go to the theatre - the theatre comes to you!) They'd done one fora cruise line (Murder at Sea). Being on board a cruise ship just added an extra layer of horror to the whole affair. (No escape! Passengers hounded you!)

I must warn you, I’m afraid it’s theatre.

Against the odds, Jackson was beginning to enjoy himself.

The book was entertaining but the first half was a little bit boring. Chapters were dedicated to each characters present in the books to explain their relationships and why they find themselves all together at the end but it felt long and uninteresting to know this much about characters. it is my first book from kate atkinson and I don’t now if the other book from this series were written with the same pace but I found it a bit lacking in the background of Jackson Brodie who’s supposed to be the main character. Anyway the end was so well written and funny, I love every bits of it. The narration was funny and left me laughing and breathless sometimes. I enjoyed the book!

A murder mystery that gathers up speed at the end. Some unanswered questions though but a gripping read in parts

Nice twist but girl, I did not care at all throughout the whole novel. Not even for a second.

This upbeat slightly satirical style of prose that a lot of British detective (detective-adjacent) novels seem to be adopting is just not for me, I fear. It works on TV but makes me want to tear my brain out of my cranum in novel form.
