I read this one because I'd already read the first one, so I gave it a try. It was ok, I guess. Not very entertaining, not very exciting, always very cute. Just meh.

finally coming back to review this...this book had a cute plot with good surface level characters but honestly i think American Royals could have been a standalone because this just felt like a repeat of the first book's plot.

           i loved all the love stories going on and there were so many moments when i almost started SCREAMING of happiness. the book was so cute, and i love how each of the characters went through a path of self-discovery, especially beatrice. seeing her become more confident was honestly so inspiring, especially for a fictional book. lowkey sad that nina and jeff didn’t end up together cause they seemed so good for each other, but i’m not mad at nina’s ending either. don’t know how to feel about daphne and jeff yet, still processing. i LOVED samantha’s fake dating to lover trope, as well as her journey of figuring out who she was and who she wanted to be. this book deserves a round of applause and hopefully another sequel!!!

           I think the author was trying to shock readers with this sequel. I can confidently say it worked, just maybe not in the intended manner. First off, why spend an entire book diving into the chemistry of certain relationships and just throw them away in the sequel? it doesn’t make sense

1. What the fuck happened to Jeff? Not only was he in the book like one time, but he became a shallow character that was only used as a romantic interest. Him and Nina had great Chemistry in American Royals, but that was thrown away in a matter of seconds

2. Sam? I loved her in the first book, but her character did a complete 180. All she cared about was her relationship, I wish we could’ve seen her and Jeff interact more. I refuse to believe she got over Teddy that soon. The girl was pissed at Bee for being engaged to him, then all of a sudden she just didn’t care.

3. Daphne was a bitch. I don’t mind this because she was a bitch in book one. Mcgee stayed true to her character and really made her a mean girl. I like that she had no “redemption” because I don’t think all villains should get that arc.

This along with a bland story line, weird writing, and the complete style change made this book not for me. If this was a trilogy, I wouldn’t be that upset because everything could be fixed, but as the end of the series, I disliked this immensely.

           i’m not going to lie to you, i’m a little disappointed in that ending. everything was going so good and i was loving it so much but then towards the end, everything seemed like it just happened at once and that kind of threw me off. i gave this book 3/5 stars because two thirds of it was really good. the ending went downhill and i’m sad that i had such high expectations. but, i would still recommend reading it!!

beatrice’s ending i really liked! i liked that she showed she could make her own decision and she really did fall in love and made sure that everything would happen on her own timeline rather than someone elses

sam’s ending was great as well, i’m glad she ended up with someone that understood her and let her be herself. it made me so happy when she patched up her relationships!

nina’s ending made a little sad, she was finally happy and getting what she deserved and then she decided they needed a break :(

daphne’s ending was an absolute no from me. she played them both and she ended up getting what she wanted and i’m so mad about it. i started to really like her until she ruined nina’s relationship UGH. she doesn’t deserve him, and i’m so upset he’s basically gonna live a lie with her

           I liked how this book addressed sexism and racism in the media. I didn't like however how all the characters seemed to change personalities from the first book. And the way Daphne confessed her love to Ethan seemed so quick and random. There was just no buildup. I did like the ending though and I'm excited to read the 3rd book.

OH MY FREAKING GOSH DARNIT I’M SO UPSET RIGHT NOW I CAN’T FUNCTION I’M DEAD I’M GONE WHAT THE ACTUAL FRICK

Nooooooo what was that ending!!!! I hated this book up until the last 100 pages and the only thing getting me through it was the knowledge that everything would be fine and everyone would love each other and I can live a happy life… BUT NO!!! Apparently I don’t deserve to be happy because that ending was complete crap!! Throughout my entire time reading this book I disliked so much that I took multiple reading breaks. Everyone was broken up or mad at each other: Connor left Beatrice cause she “needed” to marry Teddy, Nina broke up with Jeff cause she couldn’t handle the media (honestly that one was fine; Ethan was better), and Samantha’s relationship with Beatrice was ruined cause she was being a jealous teenager who didn’t get to date her crush. The only thing actually getting me through the book was Nina and Ethan’s relationship and Sam and Marshall’s relationship… THAT’S IT!! Any other chapters about any other characters made me want to bawl my eyes out cause everyone was just sad. And I don’t care that Beatrice and Teddy were happy in the end cause BEATRICE AND CONNOR WERE MEANT FOR EACH OTHER!!!! Okay now for the ending: The fact that Nina and Ethan didn’t end up with each other makes want to sink into a deep, dark depression. Jeff being a shallow prince asking out Daphne makes me believe that there is nothing good in this world. And finally, the fact that Beatrice didn’t end up with Connor and decided to marry Teddy instead forces me to believe that true love is a hoax. In conclusion… I’m upset and probably won’t read another book for a month just cause I’m too scared of another unhappy ending.

           Bueno. For a second there I thought that Katharine was going to take control of the story and not let the characters write the story, but I am very glad that I was wrong. The ending was manifique but I have this wish in the back of my mind that Beatrice had handed the queenship to Sam!!!!! UGH!!!!!

Call me lame, but I really liked this book and it best out it’s predecessor American Royals by a long shot! You got all the same froth and drama as the first book with way better character development and more realistic, messy-but-satisfying resolutions can all the crazy soap opera unrequited love cliffhangers. I felt like the themes were deeper, too - grabbing a hold of your fate vs acquiescing to it, what tenable, healthy love really looks like in all it’s messy forms, owning a leadership role as a young woman in a world that’s tacitly domineered by the opinions of men, the difference between choosing to know where you stand in relation to everyone and actually choosing to know yourself.

A few nits:
1) Just like JK Rowling (so at least she’s in good company), the author HAS to get a handle on her use of adverbs and specific intransitive verbs. If she used “hoarsely” or “gruffly” to describe how someone spoke one more time I was about to hurl my book over the deck railing, and I don’t understand why every single one of these characters seemed to be so inclined to “murmur” every single thing they said. Like what does that even mean? It killed me and this book should have had a harder editorial pass taken on it to weed this stuff out because otherwise I actually found the writing to be pretty strong - if, of course, a little overly theatrical, but that’s why you read this stuff in the first place not because it’s Shakespeare.

2) There was a little too much in here ripped DIRECTLY from Kate and Pippa and Meghan... it was annoying. Sam’s bridesmaids dress was literally Pippa’s. Carol Middleton is definitely Daphne’s mom (ok I kind of like that similarity). Beatrice is going to walk HERSELF down the aisle for the big day. There was more but I don’t want to get spoiler-y (I promise nothing above is a spoiler!); it just got too much.

3) Daphne sucks.

Other than that, great read and was a rare sequel that outshone the first book!

           Essa resenha na verdade será uma catarse sobre oq eu estou pensando quando acabei de terminar o livro. 
Esse livro faz com que o primeiro pareça um grande dramalhão sem sentido já que todos os casais lá desaparecem. 
Primeiro temos a Nina e o Jeff q terminaram no fim do livro 1, okay eu gostava desse casal então esperava q eles se resolvessem nesse livro mas n. A Nina simplesmente se envolve com o Ethan e é isso (apesar de que nem eles ficam juntos o final por conta do, quase, mesmo motivo do termino dela com o principe). Gosto do personagem do Ethan tbm mas as vezes fico um pouco dividida. 
A Nina foi uma personagem q eu fiquei um pouco desapontada pq eu gostava mto dela no livro 1 e nesse achei ela chata. (MANO COMO QUE VOCE VAI NO CASAMENTO DA RAINHA E FICA ACHANDO QUE VOCE VAI VIRAR AS PRINCIPAIS REPORTAGENS POR ESTAR NAMORANDO O MELHOR AMIGO DO SEU EX, O PRINCIPE?! PELO AMOR DE DEUS NEH AMADA).
Ai sinceramente sinto q o Jeff n passa de um bobalhão q n enxerga nada q acontece perto dele e resolveu voltar com a Daphne no final e eu só consegui pensar: PQ SENHORR?!
A Daphne é insuportável, nada mais a declarar. 
A Sam foi uma otima surpresa pq ela passou de chata p uma das personagens mais legais já que ela percebeu q ela tava sendo loka achando q o teddy era o amor da vida dela e bla bla bla dps de ter beijado o cara uma vez e q na vdd tudo n passava de pirraça com a irma. 
Marshal perfeito zero defeitos.
Beatrice e Teddy perfeitos. Sorry Connor mas esse casal é lindo e os personagens separados também. Adorei a decisão final de n casar p mostrar que pode ser rainha sozinha. 
No final das contas a melhor coisa do livro mesmo foi a demissão do Robert que eu queria que acontecesse desde o começo do livro. 
É um livro bom com alguns defeitos, por isso 3.5, que foi melhor q o primeiro apesar de, na minha opinião, dar uma ignorada nos acontecimentos anteriores.

           Right, so it wasn’t bad per say. But I can’t help being so let down after the first book blew me away. This felt like the author grasping for straws to not make it cliche. The relationships of the first book were basically dismantled for no good reason other than to be different.

I fell in love with the characters /couples on the first book and I couln't wait to know more on the secodn book, only to discovered that they are all switched... and still no happy ending!!!.... Ok.... I guess there will be a third book.... Please, please make the story will get better...
