The world building was incredible, yet I was physically repulsed by the worms and the infection. And then the roughness of the love interest was kind of a lot for me. And his casual cruelty was a little bit of an ick and a red flag.

I don't think dark romance is my niche, yet I still keep trying them, and I always feel a little mentally battered by the end.

The world building was actually so good, and the dark academia was beautiful in my mind with the authors descriptions.

I loved the softer main character, who isn't the stereotypical tough character who is ready to fight, can beat someone up, etc. She knows what she wants, and also wears skirts/dresses instead of being more tough in pants, and also cries when she wants to and isn't afraid of emotions. In these type of worlds, main characters are often just as tough as the rough love interest, and I liked their contrast.

Nonetheless, this was a well written novel, but the dark nature (which is literally in the genre) may not have been for me.

It took a super long time for any romance, and even then there wasn't a ton. I fear that the love interest was a little too dark and mean for my taste, but that's okay.

I definitely wouldn’t consider this dark romance more dark romantasy or even just fantasy? 

It was alright but it felt so very predictable to me - almost all of it I was like “okay I seen that coming” 

I will say the set up for the next book was super well done

This book was also really long and I feel like it could have been about 30-50% shorter

I am going to keep this review a little bit shorter. I liked this one but didn't necessarily love this one. I wanted to love it more than I did. I had pretty high hopes for this one but it felt lacking in the romance department. The story itself, the gothic atmosphere and the academia setting was very neat. I really liked the whole plot with the creatures in humans and making them go mentally unhinged, I loved the heroine and really resonated with her. I did the POV for the hero to be really interesting and was intrigued by it in many ways. The one complaint that I had with this book was the lack of the relationship focus. I just felt like the focus was more on the spice and the book plot and not much development on the relationship building element to it as much, it felt more faded in the background. This doesn't mean I won't read this author in the future, because I was fascinated by her world building talents but definitely needed more work on building up the relationship because I didn't quite feel those elements like I was hoping would happen.

Overall I am intrigued by this author but I do feel like this author might be a bit overrated but I still enjoyed this story overall and the narration was well done on it.

Finaaally a book that actually has an original story and has spice that doesn’t make me cringe so hard that my body hurts. I really enjoyed this one.

It has been what feels like a long time that I have 5-starred a book and wow did this book earn it without second thought. This book was AMAZING! Nocticadia has officially earned a spot on my top 10 list and Keri Lake has gained a fangirl. The depth and layers to this story were so well written, not to mention how impressive the science behind the story was. The details are so factually inspired and so well done that I would fully believe that Noctisoma exist. The mystery and thrilling suspense had me absolutely addicted, then you add the perfect amount of spice!!! Couldn’t have been any better. Brilliant and spooky and sexy and brainy, just perfect.

This was the perfect balance of romance and suspense. Honestly, I was obsessed with the entire novel. The whole backstory had me hooked from the start. The parasites were fascinating, and I love that you could tell that the author researched different types of parasites before creating their own. Beautifully written! Highly highly recommend to anyone looking for a good dark academia romance With spice
