For the most part, isekai (trapped in a fantasy world) anime and manga do nothing for me. They seem pretty same-y after a while, and yet new iterations seem to be released every season. I almost didn't pick up this series because I thought it was Just-Another-Isekai .... in a bear costume. It was the bear costume novelty that made me try this series, and I don't regret it for a second.

Yuna is forced into a fantasy world against her will with only an overpowered bear costume for gear. It holds unlimited items, it maxes out her attack power, it's got defense in spades, it allows her to use magic, it heals, it...basically does everything. The humor in this series comes from everyone else's reaction to her being in a cute bear costume, and also single-handedly taking down boss enemies that would normally take more than a few adventurers. It's cute and funny.

In this second volume, Yuna starts putting down roots and getting a full monster harvesting operation off the ground with the help of young Fina who has to take care of her family. Yuna employs her new twin puppets/summons of Kumakyu and Kumayuru to get around and explore their powers. It's more of the same from the first volume, but I don't even care. It's cute, it's funny, it's unique, and I love it dearly.

A HAIRY ENCOUNTER! Thanks to the stats boost Yuna gets from her overpowered (if slightly silly) bear onesie, she’s able to pick off just about any foe. When she hears that a powerful monster has been attacking a nearby village, she quickly volunteers to check it out—maybe this monster will provide a challenge for once. But when Yuna arrives on the scene, she sees that the creature is tougher than anything she’s taken on before. Has Yuna met her match?

It's not easy being a person trapped in a bear suit in a fantasy world. 

Having gotten fairly settled in her new bear house and comfortable with doing bear suit things with her twin bear companions Kumakyu and Kumayuru, Yuna tries to stay active. She's become somewhat of a novelty in the area, though, and catches the eye of a local lord...'s daughter. After that, she helps a young boy save his village and orphans eat another day. Not bad for a girl in a bear suit!

I thought this one was a bit....I won't say lame, because I still enjoyed it greatly, but not as strong as the first two volumes. The stories were kind of same-y in my opinion, though I'm interested to see where this orphanage angle goes. I'm still really entertained by the premise! This just wasn't one of the stronger volumes, I think.

MAMA BEAR MODE ACTIVATED! When Yuna sees a group of starving orphans in the town square, she takes it upon herself to look into their situation. She discovers that their orphanage is severely underfunded after the local lord, Fochrosé, cruelly cut off support! Yuna decides she’s going to help the orphans herself...and get revenge on Fochrosé while she’s at it!

Kuma Kuma Kuma Bear (Manga) Vol. 4

Yuna herds her orphans into an egg-laying operation. With her new market dominated, the orphanage becomes a productive member of society where the kids earn skills and cash for food, clothes, and niceties. The local lord is pricked with a bit of his conscience and bankrolls a new building for them as well. Score!

Again, somewhat of a departure from the first two volumes. The orphan story is sweet and heartwarming (and holy cow is the local lord's story for where the money went kinda dark), but it's a bit lacking in what I loved about the first two volumes. Still a great series overall though!

(Now an anime!) Fifteen-year-old Yuna prefers staying home and obsessively playing her favorite VRMMO game to doing anything else, including going to school. When a strange new update gives her a one-of-a-kind bear outfit that comes with overpowered abilities, Yuna is torn: the outfit is unbearably cute, but too embarrassing to wear in-game. But then she suddenly finds herself transported into the world of the game, facing down monsters and magic for real, and the bear suit becomes the best weapon she has!

Kuma Kuma Kuma Bear (Manga) Vol. 5

Super beargirl to the rescue (again)! I'm still loving the art and how awesome Yuna is, but the stories are starting to feel a little same-y at this point. There's no overall story, just a bunch of slice-of-life vignettes about a girl in an overpowered bear suit taking on the game's challenges. Which, don't get me wrong, is enjoyable on its own, just not in large doses for me. 

I do like how Yuna tries so hard to not be recognized for her power and does her best to keep it under wraps. I think that's a nice touch.
